Community The heart of the Saint Matthew’s family thrives in our Sunday Worship and also as we are “growing in Christ and alive in the spirit,” with happy opportunities throughout the year to be together in fun, friendship and fellowship. Saint Matthew’s Day provides a wonderful, annual occasion to celebrate our patron and our community with a sumptuous picnic, a variety of games and activities for all our Saint Matthew’s kids … with a lot of help from the older youth! Other annual events serve up lots more fun and fellowship: On Chili Bingo Night we gather in the parish hall for an evening of Bingo with fabulous prizes as we enjoy delicious chili. The best pancakes EVER is what we have to look forward to at our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Here we gather on the eve of Lenten times and feast on pancakes and bacon prepared by our “staff” of youth and adult helpers. This is an event everyone looks forward to year after year. Also, during the year, we have several opportunities for even more fun by running fundraisers for our Youth Mission Trip, which usually takes place mid summer. Car washes, plant sales, pizza sales … a variety of events to earn money on behalf of the youth who will spend a week from home helping those less fortunate. Of course, perhaps the most popular gathering, is our end-of-year “production” – The Saint Matthew’s Christmas Craft Sale. Beautiful, unique, enchanting crafts designed by our Craft Group. Having worked their magic through the entire year, these talented and dedicated women present the finest in crafts … to please every eye. At very reasonable prices we serve a warm and hearty lunch to all who attend … with the assistance of our youth; their smiles and speedy service always a delight. Absolutely delicious baked goods are sold throughout the festivities. And there are many more events which bring us together … as church, as family. These are but of few special gatherings that highlight our year at Saint Matthew’s.
