History of Saint Matt's
Prospectville Hall
Saint Matthew’s congregation met for the first time to worship in Prospectville Hall on Limekiln Pike, September 10, 1967. The present Tennis Avenue site of the church was selected with the help and generosity of the van Steenwyk family who made 10 acres of land available to the new congregation. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 2, 1971, followed by the first regular worship service which took place on March 19, 1972. Beginning with 50 people, Saint Matthew’s now has over 700 active members, and a wide variety of ministries. Over the years, new buildings were added to accommodate this growth: an education and office wing in 1981, a new Sanctuary in 1997 and a Sunday school building in 2000. Now, in its 43rd year, Saint Matthew’s is a vibrant, multigenerational congregation with a bright future. We exist to honor God and serve Christ by building a Christian community of worship and caring fellowship; where each member will grow spiritually and be fulfilled as they offer their gifts and talents for Christian ministry, reaching out to all in the power and love of God’s Spirit....
